Do the SP-CMC-4 mics go with my (not yet purchased) Edirol R-1?
Do I need a battery box? If so, would SP-SPSB-1 be suitable?
Thanks :-*

yes, yes, and yes, though the batt box appropriateness is dictated more by what you're planning on recording than the mics or the recorder. Whatcha gonna tape?

Mainly loud gigs in smaller venues (stealth).

Than you will definitely want bass roll off. It'll keep your tapes from getting to heavy in the low end. I would also recommend you check out the SP-SPSB-6:

It's much smaller and provides the same bang for the buck. You won't need the level control option with the SP-SPSB-7 IMO.

I thought the 6 looked kind of cheap/crappy and that the battery wouldn't stay in place. That's why I chose 1. But, it is indeed smaller and cheaper, so if the quality is as good...
Thanks a lot for the advice. I guess I'll get the SP-CMC-4 and SP-SPSB-6.

t+ for gettin' into a very fun and comparably expensive hobby! ;D

This isn't a mic question anymore but I don't want to soil the board with another thread, so here we go. I e-mailed Sound Professionals about the R-1 together with SP-CMC-4 and SP-SPSB-6. The customer guy said that I don't need a battery box. The R-1 provides plug in power. Great, only mics and a recorder. But what about the bass roll-off that I need? Any advice? :-[

Plug in power will get the mics to work, but not very well with loud music. The mics will overload very easily. You'll want a battery box. The box will give you the boss roll-off needed too.

Great, thanks a lot! The SP-SPSB-6 is back on the shopping list :)

Look what
the cat DHL dragged in! ;D A nice pair of SP-CMC-4 and the SP-SPSB-6 w/ bass roll off. Sadly, I have to wait till April for the R-1. Popular little fecker ;)
I would like to thank everybody who helped me make my mind up. You know who you are, and I know who I am. Cheers! :-*

the difference between the 6 and 1 models is basically the cute little plastic case.
