Title: mac users please help
Post by: scb on January 28, 2005, 09:08:03 AM
probably not an open forum topic, but i need to know soon so i am posting here

can someone go to this link and tell me if the download is corrupt?

http://xact.fellowtraveler.org/xact14b21.dmg.tar.gz

it seems that about 3 of every 4 files i upload is corrupt.  need to know if this one works (if the app opens), but i'm on a win2k machine at work right now

Easy ... MD5 it. Winzip can open the tarball, but I'm also on 2k, so don't know about the disk image itself. If you md5 it, you can check it on the Win2k machine. I'm not sure if TAR has the same built-in checksum that ZIP has.

oh, do you mean md5 before I upload?  i don't have the file here, it's on my mac at home.  so if that file is corrupt, i can't do anything about it until tonight.  but i need to post on versiontracker and macupdate that it's bad

sure, whenever.  i should be around this weekend.  at least, i hope to do nothing other than sit on my ass in front of the tv :)

as for the hate mail, some people love to bitch when something doesn't work no matter what.  nevermind that it's a free piece of software and that if they have to wait a few hours to download a working copy it won't kill them...
