so I have some AVI files that I turned into dvd files. burned them no problem but there is no menu etc. how can I make a menu for the dvd?? I have nero 6.6, dvd shrink, DVD Decrypter, dvd santa, and TMPGEnc.
-
TMPGEnc
whatd you use to go from AVI to mpeg?
-
dvd santa. I forgot I had tmpgenc.
-
santa does that? i tried it and couldnt get that to happen. ive been using ulead dvd movie factory 3 which can use AVI and converts direct to dvd and does the menues and all, but suddenly its been crashing so i think i need to find an alternative if i wanna finish these damn seinfeld dvds (2 more discs from season 6 to go, and all of season 8 still, and i need to return the burner to its owner by next week
-
when I open santa the first option is video files to dvd. worked great but no menu.
-
ohh thats what i thought, so its just a video_ts output, not an mpeg output right?
-
anyone know if cucusoft creates menus??

as far as I can tell. I think I made I a video_ts folder for them to output to.
-
so I now have dvd menu studio, DVD Architect 2.0, and vegas 5.0. they are all kicking my ass. anyone got any tips or something easier to use to make menus??
-
ive been using ulead dvd movie factory, free for 30 days and fully functional...www.ulead.com...slow though

regarding DVDSanta, I ran into this strange problem the other day.
I have a .mpg that is 56+minutes long. loaded it into DVDSanta and told it to create DVD.
the resulting VOB file should be nearly 2GB, but it ended up only 108MB.
I emailed their support and have heard nothing(actually, the email got bounced back from their server saying the support@ address doesn't exist...)
anyone else run into this problem?

You should use Vegas 5 and DVD Architect 2. Best editing and authoring software out there.

not sure if this was directed towards my response...if it was, neither Vegas5 nor DVDArchitect2 will open .mpg files and I refuse to use ULeads piece-o-crap software

for the price (free) ulead is good in my book (i only needed dvd burning for a few weeks) but out of curiosity...whats wrong with ulead ???
-
maybe it was just the ULead version that came with my burner...I dunno.
havent used it in over a year but when I did use it, it did work, but it installed other programs I had no interest in(and couldnt remove without removing DVD Factory), downgraded my Nero to a older incomplete version(I had bought the full version) and took forever to create the VOB files(in comparison to other DVD creation software)
-
yeah it does take forever, but it isnt bundled anymore. and im not really sure what its speed would be like if you used mpg as input video instead of the avi's i used which required conversion. on the bright side: its VERY easy to use. its only faults are it had a driver conflict on me once (which i repaired) and it freezes sometimes, but thats fixable by frequent saving.
-
well, the DVDs I burn are recordings from my ReplayTV, so I have to use .MPG as my source

Are you sure about that? I believe it will with the right plug-in? Maybe I'm thinking mpeg2?

yeah, they use MPEG2 (.MP2)

you just need the .mpg plugins - i think they're by main concept. at least they are on vegas 4. i've converted my avi's to .mpg using those plugins. i think theres the option to do mpeg-1 and mpeg-2.
i can look when i get home if you'd like.
...i should upgrade to vegas 5, but i'm lazy.
-
you need a plugin to open a .mpg file in Vegas/DVD Architect?? wtf!
-
you may not, if you buy it, you just go to the vegas website and download it if the plugin doesn't already come bundled with it. thats what i did anyway.
-
Ive just been all over the Sony media software site and cant find ANY information about plugins(even 3rd parties that make them). just looked at Main Concept and their plugins convert to .mpg....I allready have the .mpg, I just need to make the VOBs
-
no idea then, i know i got the plugins over a year ago. but i know for a fact that i can definitely work with mpg files cuz thats what i convert all my avi's to and then i make the dvds after the fact.
