Just wondering what the deal is at this place. Do they have a section they make you tape from, or can you pretty much just set up where you want? Also, do they serve booze in this place? Anybody else going to any of these Black Crowes shows in March? I'm going on Friday and Satruday.

front row of 1st mezz is the place to be. if theyll let you run on the floor (doubtful) go for it, otherwise, go early, grab a good spot in line, and get that front row mezz :)

I'm going to the opening night for this. Why won't they let you tape from the floor? I got floor seats and found out after that it's general admission but within sections. Am I screwed now?
-
they *might* let you tape from the floor, but im gonna guess not.
no, youre not screwed, i had floor for biscuits NYE and ran balcony. but it was a bit of a hassle. they wouldnt let us go upstairs, we had to get approval from some house guys, they eventually did. if they give you shit, say you accidentally bought floor and want the mezz, and make it sound like your doing them a favor, you wont obstruct the floor, blah blah...and make sure its abundantly clear that you mean AUDIO taping, not video (they almost didnt let us run cuz they thought we were video tapers, and they were giving us shit about how its a union house...)
your best bet...trade for a 1st mezz with someone in line when you get there :)

Thanks for the advice and +T. I don't think I'd have a problem trading tix for the mezz seeing as it's a sold out show!
So, were they not allowing floor taping that night or was it by choice for the mezz?
-
ive heard people ahve been asked to move off the floor...but...the staff that night said i could run on the floor if i wanted. i was skeptical though, i figured that someone else might tell me to move as soon as 1st set started :P so i ran mezz. first row mezz is a VERY comfortable place to tape. you get a seat if you need it, great stage view, sounds decent up there, and if you block well, keep all your gear in the empty space infront of you....and if you want, bring an extension chord, theres power on the pole about 3 rows back ROC. tape the cable down and dont worry about batteries all night :) (great for laptop people like me) good luck and backatcha!

Also, FWIW, if the Crowes old policy is still in effect, they won't let you run from the floor either. They've always been pretty strict about no stands FOB, but who knows with these gigs.
I'm just taking the rig and seeing what happens...

Can somebody who's gonna be taping opening night post here about what whether you can tape from the floor or not. If you tape from the Mezz section are you still using a stand or just clamping to something? I have never been in this place so I have no idea what its like. FWIW, they let people tape FOB at the show they played on 9-28-01 in New Jersey.

Will do...I've got floor tix, so I'm planning on taking the stand and seeing what happens. If I get hassled, I'll try and clamp front row of the balcony. Regardless I'll have my laptop, and the hotel we're staying in has WiFi...so I'll report back the next morning...hopefully the same time I announce the torrent. ;)

I went to the O.A.R. shows they had at hammerstein and they let some people tape from the floor.

Was it sold out?? Maybe depends on how crowded the floor is.
-
yea, both nights were sold out.
they were set up in the sbd cage near the back of the floor not really blocking anyone, i don't see why they would have a problem if you were back where the tapers were
on a side note, if you tape from the floor, the whole floor shakes.
-
+T for the tips!! I'm going to shoot for the floor. Just open up the footprint and tape down!!
-
if you had an fob stand you might have a shot

i'm most likely going to run in hat up front on the floor for whatever show i go to. might only be one, not sure yet

I'm just pleased to see so many people preparing to tape what could be an uncertain reunion. My opinion though is that these shows will be something special.
I'd be there if I could, but I'll have to wait for the UK dates..
+ts all round, and may all your tapes come out great.

I got busted taping on the floor for the Biscuits 12-31-03 5 minutes into the 1st set by venue security and had to shut down. I was pretty low-profile I thought and stayed out of view until the lights went down. They made all tapers setup in the balcony and if you had a floor ticket, they let you up there. This year for the Biscuits 12-31-04 I just bought a balcony ticket and didnt mess with fob taping and it came out pretty good. Id say, unless you are hatting it from the floor, you may as well tape from the balcony front and center. If youre on the floor in the sbd area, you will be directly below the front of the mezz. anyways and less in line with the PA.
fwiw, it does sound better in the sweet spot on the floor then in the mezz. area, but they really pack the floor tight whereas the mezz. is chill.
