wondering if anyone knows if the m-audio audiophile works flawlessly at 24/96 digi in...
i am building a machine to archive with, and need to know
-
from what source would you be feeding the archive pc a 24/96 digital signal?
-
V3 24/96 coax out
-
Gotchya -- I don't have a straight answer for you on this. I have, however, confirmed that audiophile 2496 pci cards are bit perfect at 16/48 and 16/44.1
Sorry
Darrin

thanks man. i found a used one so im gonna get it and try her out. at minimum i will do 16 bit untill i can get something to do reliable 24/96
-
I think it does 24/96 but only certain software will support it.
I did a google newsgroup search
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.audio.pro/browse_thread/thread/584539d6c30c9e6/2bfd923246ff7a0c?q=audiophile+2496+24+bit&_done=%2Fgroups%3Fq%3Daudiophile+2496+24+bit%26Submit3%3DSearch+Groups%26&_doneTitle=Back+to+Search&&d#2bfd923246ff7a0c

Here is a quip from nickspicks long ago when this card came up in
discussion in another medium..
"I know for a fact though that it will not output true 24bit audio w/o
the use of ASIO drivers, and that limits you on playback to more
high-end audio applications only. no juke-box action.
M-Audio will deny this. But we (the taper community) had it out with
them a couple of years ago and they finaly admitted that we were right.
...though they still deny any of it."
I am pretty sure this where I got the not bit perfect line from.
I am amazed that m-audio dropped their delta dio card because it works
really nice and is supported well with everything I have used it for.
I would like to see more information regarding this card though.

So what about Kernel Streaming, will that make the audiophile 2496 bit perfect? I can't seem to get ASIO working with Foobar2000 but Kernel Streaming is working fine.

Im trying to setup my 2496 card with the ASIO drivers. Any help?
Whats weird is my 2496 plays at 24/48n flawlessly, but not at 24/96 ???
-
I was actually wondering this today.
Then I was looking at the Mini-DAC (http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/minidac.php), yummy.

just a thought. what are you using as playback form the 24/96? a receiver? monitor speakers etc?
had the audiophile 24/96 for years. anyway....
until I went 24/96 I had coax out into a old kenwood receiver. would play 24/48 just fine but not 24/96. turns out the receiver couldn't handle 96k. Nick turned me onto the Edirol MA-15D's and they are fucking great! for less than $200 no new receiver and some damn nice monitor speakers that handle 24/96. and I'm told they have the same guts as the ua5 for a/d etc.
as for asio w/ the ap24/96 the only place in the control panel I see anything about asio is under hardware settings. there is one little box that says "asio options" under that it says "disable audio app use of monitor mix and patchbay/router"
nothing under playback etc.

+T Gordon. Thank you VERY MUCH for that info. Now that you mention it, I bet its my receiver. Because 24/48 works FINE and 24/96 plays back real low in volume and almost muted and a real weird background noise. The noise sounds like a muffled or scattered signal if that makes sense. Was that the symptoms of your old receiver not being able to handle 24/96 ???
FWIW, I am using a JVC RX 6000V Receiver. Id say shes pretty old. I think I got it for XMAS back in 1999 or 2000 I believe, so I bet thats the culprit. i wanted to spend my tax return money on an Aerco MP-2, but it may have to go towards some VR 2's and a sweet integrated instead :) Now IO can start recording in 24/96 at least again :) 24/48 is FINE for what I record(Loud Jambands with LOUD PA systems) and I doubt that 24/96 could benefit from those circumstances, but at least i know its prolly not my soundcard but rather my receiver. Thanks Gordon!
Actualy, since I quit partying and have been clean as a whistle, I could prolly afford both ;D

I would get nothing. no playback at all. in the control panel it would show levels etc but no playback.
