I'm running tape for a band who wants a demo CD. They arranged to be able to play in a bar while it is not in use, so we have the entire room to ourselves.
Assuming the band is spread out about 12 feet across the stage, my initial thought is to run subcards at about 5 ft high and split 6-7 feet shooting forward straight at the band, about 6 ft from the stage. I have not been in this room but if it sucks, I'll run cards the same way. I could just run NOS or ORTF, but I'd like to capture a wider sound than if I had to compete with a crowd.
Any reason why this would not be a good choice?
Another question: the drummer is hot compared to the rest of the band. I'm thinking of using some heavy blankets over chairs around the drum kit as needed to mute the sound. If there is enough room, we cna maybe set the drum kit back from the rest of the band.
Any better idea of how to mute the drummer given that there are no accoustic panels available?

i'm probly way off base here, but, w/out a crowd or any other noise makers pressent. i'd think of running omni. i don't like to use them because of all the chatter/whatnot they pick up. of course, room accoustics considered.............

;D by hotter, i assume you mean he beats the hell out o' the skins. unless everyone else is cranked to compete, you will definately have to do some damping. or figure out how to get him to relax real good ;)

Phasing. If it sounds good when you set it up go for it. If not try something else.
