Title: first time on stage split omni's
Post by: jesse on February 12, 2005, 08:36:40 PM
Well looks like I'll be running my omni's on stage for the first time.  Let me give you a run down of the venue first.  Small stage stacks are 30 apart max.  I'm taping a trio, base cab on the right drums center back, and guitar cab on the left.  I have researched some threads on running on stage and I'm thinking that I want to be no less than a couple of feet  in front of the center monitors, so the vocals are up in the mix.  Thinking that I would probably run about 2 feet-1and a half from the monitors split AB?  Any first time advice for running on stage?  Thanks

WTF ran split omni's tonight with my C4's and had something very strange happen.  My left channel with the gain turned all the way up was maxing out at-20 db?  The other channel was running fine.  so I had to turn down the gain on the channel that was working all the way to match the other.  My recording is very soft and rarelly hits -12db.  My question, is one of my omni caps bunk?  gonna set up the rig tomarrow and test it out, but when I first got my mics I tested out my card caps and everything was normal so I know it's not my mic bodies.  I listened to the tape and it will sound fantastic after some db. gain in soundforge.  Anyone got any ideas what the problem might be.  Made sure to check that the -10 wasn't on and that the connections were good.  Just when you think youre getting to know the ins and outs of you're rig something like this has to happen.  Oh well so is life.

Well tested out my rig and the omni's work fine now.  Must be cuz I'm sober ;D  Don't know what would weeken the signal like that though, maybe loose caps?  Ya everything works fine now that I'm not taping a band.

you know, I had the same thing happen to me one night...one channel was running way lower than the other. Couldn't figure it out...next day tested things out, no problems at all, and not a single one since...sometimes gear behaves strange and we will never know why

Did you use te house snake to get your signal ala onstage matrix? If you did, maybe part of their cables is bad?
