you gotta Sony 7 Pin "IN" only cable like the RK-DA10P like this:

you can mod it to have both IN and OUT:

one question.
what did you use to hold the cable tight in the splitter?

one question.
what did you use to hold the cable tight in the splitter?
a rubber bushing. once you tighten down the screw/nut to clamp the 2 splitter pieces, the bushing really holds down on the cable.

side note: How many wires are on the 7pin side in the cable(inside the 7pin head on the PCB)? and what color are they
thanx.

none. i removed the orginal coax cable. there are only 2 connections in the original design (+ IN and shield).

fozzy;
shouldn't be too difficult to figure out which pin's output is + voltage to power the optical transmitter.

true but i'm lazy. My worry is not figuring out which pin i need but having a point to solder it on to. I'm gathering from your comments all 7(8)pins don't make it back to some sort of PCB

Not exactly on target - but some of this info may help or be of interest...
