Title: Mono > Stereo
Post by: BobbyHurley on February 22, 2005, 06:55:41 PM
I'm downloading a John Coltrane show from 1961. The text file says that its in mono. If I have Wavelab and two brain cells to rub together, can I create a stereo file from the mono?

Umkay, well apparently this show is already in "stereo." Perhaps the mono was laid down onto a L and R channel, creating an artificial stereo image. Thanks for the help.

left and right mono channel is still just mono.  I did that to my master once.  It sucked.

1.  Reverse the phase of the original file.
2.  Edit the original file an apply some type of EQ to it.
3.  Create a 3 track file a: Original (panned slight left) b: Original Phase Rev(panned slight right) c: Original EQ (Center)

Just one of many ways...

Edit:  You may also want to mess with the delay inthe center panned track.  I haven't worked with wavelab, but you should simply be able to shift the track by editing its starting point.

I noticed the other day that there are a few waves plugins to do some of this as well.  Check out the PS22 plugin (haven't tried it myself).
