Title: Any one use Azden FMX-20 field mixer?
Post by: cfbarlow on February 26, 2005, 05:02:53 PM
Hey all,

was wondering if anyone has input on the Azden FMX-20 field mixer?

Just wondering why I've never seen this, seems like a good low cost option.

well it would seem to me the reason would be that it does not supply 48v phantom to the mics, in that case it only mixes the two sources, so you would need a ps-2 or other phantom device and optionally an a/d converter.  And for the price of both of those just buy a mp-2 which has mixing and phantom and buy an ad-20 or sbm-1 for a/d.

well I guess I can clarify, I have a AD 500, and a PS-2; been looking for a low cost pre- ideally I want a v2- yet in the meantime, this could be something kind of cool.  And hey, esoteric gear is always cooler.   ;)

my advice is an mp-2 or mixpre or shure fp-24 (mixpre rebranded, and ditch the ps-2) less to carry or run out of batteries.  There is one on ebay right now.
