so i went to plug in the optical cable to the jb3 and the optical input completely removed itself from the machine!! There is a piece juggling around in there
How can i get the optical port repaired...cost estimates?

call creative.
I know some folks who had problems with them several times with several units and they eventually sent him a 40 GB JB3 replacement even though he started with a 20 GB version.

Beware, though, that at least one member on the NJB3 Yahoo group sent his in for repair and instead of repairing it, Creative opted to replace it outright with a device of "equal value" - that, of course, did not record!

that blows for that guy... wow.

resolder it back on, just have to open it, and from there it is very easy to do

Yeah, I've had to resolder the thing on one of my JB3's twice. Probably the biggest flaw in design on the JB3 is the combo of the optical and analog jack they failed to secure the white plastic piece to the board with a screw or anything. The only thing holding it in place are the weak solder joints.

I am going for #2 any day now, just have to find my jewlers kit
-
Same thing happened to mine.....broke right off.
I tried to solder it back on...which probably voids the warranty. Then again...the refurbs only have a 30 day warranty.

Hey, I tried to have this done with mine last week. I paid 20 bucks to some audio place to re-solder it, but now the line-in works but the optical doesn't. The guy insists that there must be some other problem because he soldered everything properly. Anyone have other suggestions?
