Title: preamp / ad converter advice
Post by: ReifMU on March 08, 2005, 07:27:14 PM
hey everyone, i am currently running the AT4041 mics with the denecke ps-2 for phanton power. i am looking for a preamp or ad converter to boost the signal. I have been looking at the denecke ad-20 (zefiro inbox), but what other things are out there for around that price (250 - 300)? one of the things i like about the ad-20 is that it runs on a 9-volt so i would preferably want to use something that will run on some type of battery. thanks for any help!

seriously think about buying/trying a pair of transformers in the chain (mics>phantom>transformers>?)..

http://www.audiotechnica.com/guide/other/access/inline.html#CP8201

I have used them a bunch of times when just running the phantom and needed a tiny bit of gain..  hmm.. I think it raised them 5-10 db ::scratching head::   but I honest dont remember "exactly"...

for the $300 price range I dont see how the UA-5 can be beat for open taping

Phantom, Mic Preamp, A>d

all in one very easy to "field" power Box about the size of a cigar box

YMMV.

UA-5!!!!! sounds cleaner to me................plus the ad20 already starts out at 20+db.............when your  in a loud situation(up front or close to a source) you my need to run pads to knock the level down...............especially if your mics run hot!
