Title: Jecklin Disc
Post by: Joe w. on March 20, 2005, 06:24:51 PM
Thanks to Moke for all the great info in this thread: http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=800.0

Here is how I made my Jecklin disc:

Materials List:
1. ~15" x 15" x 1.5" box from a motherboard I purchased a while back.
2. Crafts Foam of the same dimensions from the Walmart Crafts Dept. ~$5
3. (2) thin egg crate packing foam 15 x 15
4. 1 yard of polar fleece from walmart crafts dept. ~$5
5. Stapler
6. box of pins ~$1
7. Bourbon and Diet w/lime (3 min.) :P

I put holes in the top and bottom to allow it to slide down on the top portion of a stand. the hole in the center will hold a kwon bar securely. 1,5" thick foam is on the inside of the box.

Egg crate on the outside of the box to avoid sound slap off of the box. I felt it needed the subbase of the box for optimum baffling.

Wrap tightly with the fleece and secure the edges with staples, pins, or stiching

I used 2 clamps, top one inverted, to prevent the disc from twisting from side to side

it must be the angle of the picture, because it looks to me like one of the mics will be behind the board, which looks to be parallel to the stage

it's gotta be the angle of the pic.  even the top pair looks strange to me.

BTW: nice job joe!  i trust you have made some quality tapes 8) i really must build one of these for myself ;D

either the angle or since Joe was running Schoeps I believe, he may have had to set them up all cockeyed to get a listenable tape :P

Huh? everything looks right to me... Why would it be parallel? It looks like there are three pairs of mics and we are seeing the right ones...

correct.

It was a pretty shitty PA and overall sound for my first attempt with it. Still have yet to listen a bunch....

I've only used it once and If I did get complaints, I'd take it down. But unless you're Shaquille O'neil and want to stand behind it....it may cut off a few angles :P
