I am running a nakcm300>ad20>d7. I have been taping every Friday and cant seem to get enough bass and the highs like cymbal crashes and vocals are sometimes overbearing. Is there anything I can do to adjust this during record or only post record. Also b/c of room size the farthest I can get from the stage is maybe 10 feet. The stacks sit about 2 foot off the ground and im runnin the mics at about 9 foot dead center.Any sugg. from the more experienced would be much appreciated. TIA.

which caps are you using?
how are you setting up the mics? Are you using a stereo configuration, like ORTF or are you just pointing at the stacks?
is the room you are recording seem bright when you are at the show?

Runnin on lo cut I am new to runnin mics and Im not really sure about the bass rolloff feature. I searched around and didnt see too much to help me explain it. I tried to do my own test i.e. running locut first set and flat second set but unfortunately I had a bad xlr at the time so the tape sucked anyhow. How much will the bass rolloff affect this?

lots, losethebass rolloff, or at least use a cutoff thatisnt as severe

definitely ditch the bass roll off.... that should solve most of your problems.
my other thought was that maybe you were pointing your mics right at the PA stacks, this could make the tape seem bright if your mics were directly on axis with the PA speakers

also, on the inside of the capsule ( take the CAP off and look inside). there is a 0-10db bulit in attenuator. I always have mine set, when I use them, to 0bd. check this out, it may help.

Never thought to check the manual... DUH!!!! Thanks for the quick response needed to resolve this before A Difference plays Cleveland HOB for the first time.

i assume you are using a 7 pin for the D7?

great suggestions thusfar....Configurations can play a part of your sound, ortf works well for me when I am in a good room as an xy config can rolloff the bass a bit. I would also submit that the ad-20 is a bright box, IMO.....combined with a bright mic, again IMO can yeild a bright tape....but I would try ditching the rolloff, stereo configs and different rooms/PA's before I go changing gear....that setup should yeid some nice tapes.
