ok, i know i am flooding the board ;D
i am looking for some advice about mics... i think instead of going balls out like i was waiting to do, i should get a set of mics to start off with. i would ideally like a mic that can either be p48 or battery powered. i have seen a few that fit this bill, AKG 1000C and AT853a both claim to be able to do both (obviously not at the same time),and then there are the naks that can be modded. the appeal is that i can concentrate on just mics and an adc for my next purchace. (although a $50 samson ps isnt that much more). i am leaning towards the at b/c there seems to be more versatility with caps and they also seem able to be modded to make them smaller (although a p48 will probably be needed at that point). anyone have experience with these mics and a jb3 with - and love to hear without - an adc.
cheers

akg c1000s are far worse in my opinion. they sound way to tinny. they're not nearly as stealthable either.

thats what i've been hearing... and sorta noticed looking at them.
more questions:
the at's i am looking at at853a... is the battery to operate this a box seperate from the mic (it looks like it). are there at8** mics that are more traditionally sized? will i be able to mount the 853a's on a stand or is it strictly stealth? am i stuck with a 25' cord (one less thing to buy i guess)?
is at853a (battery powered) > jb3 gonna sound like ass?

do a search for AT853 and you'll find tons of information about them.

how dorky would a white and black one look... ;D
dorky enough for me to want to do it :P
even though it is able to be powered with the batteries, it looks like the p48 gives a better range to the mics. this leads me to believe i might actually get more bang for my buck if i go at853a>sampson>jb3. i really need to listen to that mmw show and see how much a difference the line in / optical in made.
i should do it now.

so i looked into it, and it seems that the specs are different in the 853a and 853rx. not by much, but there is a difference. now i know when using the 853a on battery power i am going to suffer the sound, but my question is if both are powered p48, will there be a noticable shift in quality?
it definately appears that the rx has a slight edge above the a, but i like the versatility of the a (able to use battery or p48). however i did also notice that the rx manual does offer a clear way to shorten the cable (or possibily replace it if inclined)... are the mic cables as easy to replace on the a?

i would disagree with the akg c1000's being tinny. i have pulled great tapes with mine. i am finding thet depending on the configuration of the mics they tend to be bass heavy to me. you are right abour using them to stealth. you might could do it dressed like a cop and have them on your utility belt like a billy club. these things are huge and heavy.
