Title: Vibration in my recording - Blue Floyd 3/20/05
Post by: spyder9 on March 26, 2005, 04:31:03 PM
Hey guys,

I taped Blue Floyd in Syracuse last Sunday.  Got a good FOB recording.  But, I noticed I have some vibration in my recording.  Shows up in the quietest moments.  I can't tell if it was from my stand or the house monitors.  I was bungyed to a metal railing in front of the mosh pit, 5 yards fron the monitors.  I used Windtech shockmounts.  Tim (raoulduke) clamped to me and claims to have some in his recording too.

How do I filter the noise?  Below is the torrent for the sample.  I am using powerboatman's tracker for the first time.

Thanks!

Yep, but we had them in our padded bags.

It was way louder at the Black Crowes last week.  I had my JB3 in a waist bag and people were bumping into me, so I don't think its the JB3.

I couldn't tell at the time.  My ears aren't as sharp as they used to be.  I got there late, we set up in front of the right stack.  Couldn't setup DFC because the bar was behind us, which made it a high traffic area.

I agree with Alex, definitely sounds like snare to me... still a little annoying, but at least if it is really that, it's not something with your setup

Well, I did notice Matt's drums were prevalent at times.  Especially his solo, which jump off the charts.  I had to reduce the decibels on the solo.

Thanks for tryin', Bean!  If you are using Winamp, you'll need the flac plugin.

so I just had a chance to listen to this...(sorry it took a bit Dan) and it sounds to me like the PA was vibrating....I have heard that at times in clubs that push the PA way too hard...I dont think it is vibration in the stand...but it is tough for me to say for certain without having been there to hear it live...but the PA would be my guess....I cant tell you the number of times I have heard a bad artifact from a PA on my tape, not remembering hearing it in person...but once you go back to the club you will never miss it again....

Thanks Nick for reviewing the sample.  Do you think I should still seed my show?  I have the thing ready to go.  The sample I sent you was isolated area of the recording.  The vibration is intermittant during the quiet spots.  Once the band starting playing out the song, the vibration disappears.  +T for the help.

if my guess is correct and it is the PA, then no one else taping would have missed it either...definitely seed it

Cool.  Timbo, I'll let you seed first.    Bri is taking the site down tonight around 10:30pm.  So I'll put mine up tomorrow night.  It will give everyone a chance to download and hear your's.
