They have to make sure you're not "spies"  ;D

Really. Though, this is the case. Zaxcom has the same thing for their gear. A private group that you only get invited to when you purchase their gear.

In my case, they understandably want to verify that I'm older than 13.

On a sonosax note, I was lookin to buy that demo version of the m2 for cheap, they wouldnt hook me up, but pierre blanc, one of the dudes there agreed to cut me a GREAT deal on a new one, so itll be in the chain for my future stealth upgrade to 4061>m2>jb3

very nice people , sonosax. love the swiss.

You should send a service request though the support web page on the SD site.  They are very responsive.

Whats your problem?  Same as matt was reporting?

Do tell ... I'm going to a buddy's place down the street from me tonight. He's got a newer powerbook and a G4 or G5 workstation where I can try the transfer. If it works consistently there, I can probably assume my old powerbook is at fault.

aren't you getting a 722 ray?  why not just run your dpa's right into that for stealthing?

the sonosax plus dat or jb3 is gonna be about as big, more cables, and you'll probably want a sbm1 in there too at some point.

I personally do not think I could pull stealthing a 722 off. I wear my guilt on my sleeve, im afraid.. The m2 sounds sweet with dpas, and while i am over here in europe, I want to grab one, cuz im gettin it at a steal. I am gonna use the 722 for open taping only. The m2/dpa I will use for gigs over here in which the band allows taping but the venue doesnt. BY the time I get it, I will have practiced enough to have justified the purchase. The 722 will be here in may, and i will prtobably buy the dpas/m2 in july or so. Gonna get some more stealth work done with the core sounds first.
BUt justi have found my dream "open" rig in the mgs>722 i have found that same vibe in the dpa 4061>m2>jb3

The 722 is about the same size as a D7+preamp (MV100, sonosax, aerco).

I was putting together my little stealth rig for when the 722 would be too big.  With the extra wires required, the D7 and aerco take up just as much room as the 722.  The JB3 isn't much bigger than a D7, but you also have that optical cable flopping around.

Something to think of , for sure. I do love that combo though. I had to wade through a lot of tape of music i didnt like to arrive at my conclusion. SOmeone also mentioned a heat issue..I somehow thought the 722 was way bigger than it is I guess.

Call that one done..

I also registered the 722 properly today.. I can wait a little now.

Next issue - Wavelab 5 and creating a DVD-a...

Thanks !

Ray

The heat isn't much of a problem for me so far.  I wouldn't run the thing in my pants but once you get inside, you can set it loosely in a bag and it should be fine.   I'll have access to a camera soon.  I'll take pictures of the 722 against the other gear to show it really isn't that big a box.  I've completely dumped my idea of running the aerco->D7 now.  The 722 and my mics fit in a small eastpack waist bag so there will be no problem in low profile situations.

Isn't the nomad the size of a CD player?  I know that there are other high res options being released, but the 722 is the reigning champ for size.

What was the issue? Not connecting at all? I'm on 1.24 and still having static issues during transfer. I'll report back tonight after I try different computers.

I had one static issue and it was in the recording..  Played back through headphones and had it..  even before transfer.  Buddy ran back up so I just chalked it up to me messing up.

I haven't had issues with formatting CF on any of the firmware builds. I always formatted a card before doing the firmware upgrade. I guess I haven't tested it in 1.32 yet, since there isn't a 'next' firmware at this point. Agreed on going to 1.32, though.

they probably have gone through with that many updates but have just released the ones they know of as the most stable and updated.

just a guess though.  the random number thing is very strange.

yeah but it seems like they NEED to avoid confusion in the testing process ;)

What nic said.  I've worked lots of places where we did this with our embedded firmware.   Sequential major release numbers like "Peggy 6.0" are helpful for marketing SW to the general public but not really very useful for stuff like this.

yeah but it seems like they NEED to avoid confusion in the testing process ;)

Actually this sort of does avoid confusion in QA.  The other numbers were most likely release candidates that didn't pass testing.  So in their development environment there is no confusion on which versions should be in the wild.

Post by: MattD on April 27, 2005, 02:32:10 PM
huh...i guess that makes sense, i just would've thought that they don't number it until it's released to avoid confusion

Release numbering is really an in-house type of thing. Version control is critical to any software development process. I guess they just chose to make those version numbers public as well.

by then i would have made 500 24-bit recordings w/ the new m-audio device :P

seriously, i wish this thing was the icing on the cake, but damn if it isnt overrated/overpriced IMO

its been like 3 years since they 'said'it would be released shortly, now they cant even get the firmware down :P

ok, sorry, im leaving the 722 threads for a few years til they perfect theyre firmware :P

firmwares have been updated constantly.  It's going to happen sooner than you think.  this latest firmware update might be the fix we are looking for.
