Title: making bodies for actives into a "box"?
Post by: caymanreview on April 09, 2005, 09:41:03 AM
just a wild thought thru my head

could i take the electronics out of these mbhos bodies and fit them into some kind of enclosure similar to a jk labs type deal?

i just want to eliminate the bodies and not have to worry about scratching stuff up...

seems as tho the electronics in the body are quite small and would fit nicely into a small thin 6" box

the insides are attached to the mini xlr for the "actives" tho. im not even sure you could get the guts out w/out trashing the bodies (but if it will work, im not worried about the bodies anyways ;)

why not just make a custom, padded, metal box for the bodies and not worry about possibly messing up one of the bodies in the transferring of the circuits?

Remember the cigar box for the neumann bodies that someone posted? A pelican cigar case??
A short set of cables were led into the box containing the bodies, and the active cables were led out the other end of the box. All the holes were rubber grommeted, as I recall? It was left hooked up that way so that the connections between the bodies and cables didn't have to be disturbed.
good luck

i was trying to find this, but couldn't.  i'm usually very good at the search so my ego is slightly fractured right now :P

yeah i know exactly what your talking bout Moke. i believe Joe W hadd them at one point. not sure who make the box and i think joe bought em like that

the thing with the mbho's is the bodies are long, longer than any pelican case anywhere close tot hat size, or small enough to be an advantage

im gonna look today while im out, and if i dont find anything i might try to find one of the hammond boxes (http://www.wytekdirect.com/Electronic%20Boxes.htm) and fit it how i want it.

i would love something that the cables plug into the box like a jk labs/nbox type deal

i wonder if there would be any degredation in sound if i had someopne make me some tiny interconnects that connect the bodies inside the box with a female type jack like the jk/nbox setup...

i was kinda thinkin similar to the style of leegeddy's VR power box.... as to the inputs/outputs

Not sure what you run, but I just drilled out custom holes on the sides of the wooden schoeps box so that once the connections are made you can slip them into the box and lock it down.

okay here are pics of my current setup...you can see where it fits down into the bag.  the container is about 9.5" x 6.5" x 2" when all is said and done.

im trying to minimize my rig as much as possible right now but i wanna go smaller than that hopefully

these things are just so damn long compared to other active's bodies

yeah.....you could get two fat cigar tubes and then line the inside with a sliced up crown royal bag for cushioning.

im thinking i might order the largest hammond box and play with it

im thinking i could fix it almost like im wanting, and have it all sealed up nice. not quite exactly what i wanted but...

if i was really serious and had everything ready i might try it. im pretty sure i can get the mini-xlr undone from the inside of the mic body. but..... if something goes wrong im not sure i would ever be able to get it back in the body right

i wish someone here had taken the mbho active bodies apart before and knew
