Title: at853 > battery box > ad-20 > jb3 question
Post by: seekup40 on April 12, 2005, 04:42:31 PM
So I just sold my DAT and I'm wondering what I all need to go from the ad-20 > jb3

I used to run this setup into a D8 and went optical out on the ad-20 > digital in with the 7 pin to the D8

I've still got me sony 7 pin optical in/out cable, id like to be sure i dont need that before i sell it

any help would be appreciated

thanks

nope, don't need it.  just a toslink cable with mini on one end should do you fine.

Be sure to test that rig first... in front of a nice, loud stereo....   ;)

So would this work out?

And why did you mention for me to test it in front of a nice loud stereo?

Exactly what you would need!

I told you that because some people report needing attenuators with that setup (I did) while others do not.  Run it to make sure it doesn't peak all over the place.  In the pre section, there's a poll about this topic somewhere.  Good luck dood!

How much do the attenuators cost?

check on microphone madness - you can get one to go between the bb and ad20 for $25.

I've already got one of these, i got it for my d8 because when i ran that for dmb i peaked all the time, so i should be set?

I have the same equipment but never thought in using the batt box with the AD20.
Is that used just to give power? Isnt batt box + ad20 gain that too much power for the mics?

Battery boxes usually add no gain, they just power the mics. Since the AD-20 provides no power you'll need it.
I ran this way for a few shows and my BB had adjustable gain so I just turned it down a little (same effect as an attenuator). Not long after I decided to just do the un-mod and get a ps-2 and run the mics on 48v phantom. They sound better and can take much higher spl's than the battery box setup.
