Title: APE compression
Post by: Kyle on April 17, 2005, 08:37:40 PM
I downloaded a SKB show from the archive and the compression scheme used is ape. I have tried the monkeysaudio.com site for software but the site will not load. Does any one have any recommendations for a good decompresssor? The files are 24/48.

Thanks! :)

Never used it myself, but ape files aren't supposed to be on the archive. Leave an error message for the admins so they can contact the uploader and get it fixed...

right-o' - I will do that

I never use it either;  I have just been really enjoying these 24bit onstage SKB recordings - they sound very nice - this show happened to have Martin Fiero on a few tracks, so I could not pass it up ;D

I'm guessing it's a Dan Heend recording? Some of his earlier SKB onstage stuff was done with APE compression. I didn't think any of it had been uploaded to the archive. An easy fix is to use shntool's "conv" command to convert the files. You don't have to install the monkey's audio frontend, but you will need the APE codec in your PATH.
