As Humbug pointed in some of his pos, in Europe (and much more in Spain where I am) is not so common going to concerts with hats (not even caps!), so every time I tried to stealth with cap, I felt a little bit suspicious as I was probably the only one in the whole venue.
I always considered the collar positioning of mics inferior quality level, don't know why, probably because they might be having more obstruction (a friend of mine used to clip his mics in the shirt jacket, bad idea!), but looking in past messages I didn't find nothing against this kind of taping.
So, can I use collar positioning of mics instead of hat with aprox same quality?

How about glasses...
or consider a very tight knit hat...it wont look so much like a hat in the dark...
I can remember streathing Dylan @ PSU 90...I had a jacket, a big hippie sweater, and a wool cap on...for the whole show!!!
I was standing like a statue - sweating PROFUSELY...the people in front of me throught I was insane...I dont think they knew I was taping...but they seemed "worried" about my appearance...

what about clipping mics to a pair of glasses?
I know what you mean though- I was totally American walking around w/ my Detroit Tigers baseball cap in Spain.

Getting the mics on your head and above many other heads and bodies will get your mics in a better sounding place. But if you're not comfortable with that, and putting them in the collar is going to let you relax and not get caught, then collar is probably better in this specific situation...

Yes that's what I thought.
Is the general quality going to be much better placing hat instead of collar?
I thought in wearing fake glasses, but isn't this too evident (fake glasses)?

Next time you go to a show, put your ears at shoulder level. Then get up on your toes a little at top of head height. You will notice a difference. It's up to you to decide if you can live with, or like the results you get from either position. I've done both, and was happy with both.

I think as long as there is glass in the frames, no one would know or question... lol... these would work, are lo profile, and would not draw any attention to you:

Also, with spectacles/glasses, if you have small mics (CSBs, CMC-2/4/8 etc.,) you can mount them inside a set of 'croakies' spectacle retainers.
This is what I did with my CMC-2s.

Strictly from a sound quality point of view I like hat/glasses better, because the mics are higher up. The sound at collar level at shows can be pretty muffled and indistinct IMHO, as BornAgainTaper alluded to.

Thanks for replies.
It looks like I should go hat instead of collar.
I feel safer with collar, however. I will be using this method in minor shows (not so worth to tape) until I get enough practice and can find something better for the hat.
+t to all!

Here's my stealth setup...
Using a behind-the-head headphone band, usually my toque is pulled back further to prevent interference once the show starts. Very stealthy, but not so good in the summertime ;D

Which one should I buy for them to work?
