i've got a rather newb. question. but, it is buggin the hell out of me and after searching i'm just getting more confused. when recording DIN, should the 20 cm spacing be measured between the caps or the bodies of the two mics? the reason i ask is b/c i have a sambra t-bar and have made two cardboard cutouts of 90 degree angles at 20 cm and 17 cm (for DIN and DINA). if a true DIN 20 cm. spacing is measured from cap to cap, it seems virtually impossible for me to get the propper spacing using this t-bar and my 483's.

I assume your xlr's out of the back are the issue?
2 solutions:
1. a riser (basically a thick ass washer to get one mic atop the other. obtained at a hardware store)
2. right angle xlr's

yeah the xlr connecting to the mics are srtraight instead of right angle which is a problem. but it still seems like i will have to overlap the bodies of the mics to obtain a 20cm space from center of cap to center of cap. i have heard people mention using a riser. this sould enable me to overlap the bodies of the mics...thanks joe +t

a riser should do it for you

or get a shure vert bar. or go to rig pics and learn to build your own vert bar.

yeah i thought about this already, but the height difference from mic to mic is about 12 inches. i wonder if this will affect the recording.

not really, horizontal separation is what matters...but the lower mic could get more chatter. I just didn't like doing it cause it looked rediculous, imo.

one thing i did when running the sabrasom bar was to rotate one of the hexagonal bars that the shocks are attached to in the mount so the positioning of the mic body was a little lower...not sure if that makes sense or not.

gracias..+t backacha. i did go out to a local hardware store and picked up a riser. i ws really surprised they didn't sell these at the home depot. anyway... it looks like a hex bolt but it is about an inch long. this fit onto the t-bar, so i bought a double sided 3/8 thread. fits like a charm ;D this solved my DIN/DINA woes on the t-bar. tried it out for mule last night and everything went smoothly. i have half the show done. so hopefully by tomorrow i'll have my first show uploaded to etree. what can i say chris? taping is very addicting
