Title: Sound Devices repair...
Post by: bdasilva on April 28, 2005, 03:37:22 PM
I bought a MP2 with a scrachy headphone pot and it needs the rechargable battery mod... I've seen that people have returned the preamps and it was a 20. repair but they just told me it would be 75.
Is this just a high quote or does it sound right?

I can't comment on whether or not the repair bill is a bit steep or not.

But as far as the mod to accept rechargeable batts you can DIY. http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=37605.0 (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=37605.0)

Also, I'm thinking maybe the scratchy headphone might just be a dirty pot. Some tuner cleaner (can be had at your local RadioShack) might just do the trick.

zip the pot from full open to full closed in rapid succession, and multiple times. this can help loosen the crap up as well.

Squirt a little tuner cleaner in there first and do as above and I'll bet you'll be good to go.  ;D
