Title: Headroom Total Airhead
Post by: mhibbs on April 29, 2005, 01:45:27 PM
Picked up an older model Headroom Total Airhead on Audiogon for $50 to use w/ my iPod at work.  Difference is amazing.  I have a pair of Shure e2c that I'm using it with.  Really opened up the high end of the Shures, and the bass is much punchier.  I tested it with my Senn HD580s at home and it does an adequate (but not outstanding) job of pushing them....seems they are very inefficient.  Definitely worth the cash if you can find a used one.

Oh yeah.  The Shures don't require a ton of power, and you can definitely reach deafening volume if you wanted to.  The first time I turned it on I got a nice surprise...1/2 volume was a hell of a lot louder than I thought it would be.

I was driving Beyer DT-250's w/mine.  and I used to bring it to shows so that I could monitor.
that is where the damage was done

Damn.  Hope yours ears are doing better, better to stick with those ear canals like the e2c's mentioned above.

mhibbs, how do you find the comfort level with the shures?  I switched to the foamies and i'm loving them!   8)

I was reading something about vitamin E and tinnitus, might want to check it out.
You had a Doc check it out, I hope......

i've never been to an ear doctor...but my GP said "yup, tinnitus".

I find that smoking herb makes it much worse.  it affects me in practice, only that I never truely experience silence

Better late than never I guess....I use the orange foam ones as well...like them a lot, and they're great on planes.
