I'm not sure about anything as good as EAC for Mac but you might want to check out Toast extractor.

Don't use iTunes...use the cdparanoia (*nix's answer to EAC) built in to xACT (xact.fellowtraveler.org). It's just as paranoid but can't do offsets, that's the only difference functionalitywise...

thanks for the tip - didnt know xact did cd extraction, too...
+t to you both.
edit:
converting to wav is the way to go, right..?
also, whether using aiff or wav, the progress bar said updating file 1 the whole extraction, which freaked me out the first time (u thought the mac had froxen). anyway, it works like a charm - thamks again for the tip - another t to you both in 12...

holy shit, i didn't know it could do that either! i've been using itunes with error correction
+t for all.
Now, does anyone know if there is a way to smoothly go from the extraction to flac w/o SBEs appearing? This might tbe a dumb question as SBEs are still a mystery to me.

Yeah, I think Scott said there's no way of updating the progress bar on extraction without some schmancy behind-the-scenes output-and-read coding. But xACT rocks for all things lossless audio. :)

Think of SBE's this way: imagine you're laying down a brick sidewalk. Each section of the sidewalk is 588 rows of bricks long, but you only have 587 rows of bricks for each section, so you fill one row with, say, styrofoam peanuts. Every time anyone rides their bike down your sidewalk, they'll have a little bump at the end of each section. That bump is your sector boundary error - each sector needs exactly 588 samples of sound to fill it properly. If it doesn't have enough, the sector gets padded with zeroes to fill it up completely. When the laser in your CD player gets to the end of that sector, it sees the zeroes and goes POP!
However, extraction doesn't cause SBE's, because if a sector is short when a CD is burned, it's padded with those zeroes to fill it...and the extraction will extract those zeroes. If you hear pops at track boundaries after an extraction, that means the SBE's were there beforehand, and the only way to fix them is with a sound editor. Not fun.

News to me as well. Anyone know offhand the newest version you can use in OSX.2? It looks like I use xACT 1.2.
xACT 1.4b26 doesn't see mto work for OSX.2.

If you're dealing with a "raw" source (such as from DAT,JB3,Hi-MD -->PC), then after tracking, set flacFrontend to "align on sector boundaries" and you'll avoid SBEs.
Unfortunately, as greenone said, if they're already there on a source CD, you're stuck with them...unless you want to spend a long time editing out each one. It's like removing TAO gaps tho, it's never really as if it had been done right originally.

another round of Ts for y'all...
one more nitpick - cant make a *.md5 of flac files - the only option are shntool md5s and ffp, which are the same thing...
but the program is bitchin' - nice work, scott - and it is more complete and intuitive than it was when i messed around with it 6 mos. ago...
(maybe make it be able to have a md5summer option, so you can drag anything into the window and make an md5 - great for those of us that use discs burned on the mac on computers w/ other OS's)
-
Yeah, if you need to md5 FLAC files, use MacFLAC or the command line (provided you have it installed, which you may not):
md5sum *.flac > blahblahblah.md5

Hmm...been using EAC for years, new pc/burner. Problem:
1. Extracted audio disc at 0 Combined read/write offset, burn and re-extract, compare wavs, "684 samples missing"
2. Set Combined read/write offset to +684, extract, burn, re-extract, compare wavs, difference = "000.000.026" (from what I can remember).
Anyone got a clue why I'm getting an error?
I'll provide tech spec later if reqd.
Cheers!
