Title: need some help with my picturebook please !!!!
Post by: phatdats on July 07, 2003, 11:50:11 PM
ok, I am just about at wits end with my setup.  i have done everthing i can think of, and still can't get it to be relaible...  sorry if this post is long, but I want to make sure I cover everything...

what I have:
picturebook c1vp
maxed memory to 384
40gb 5400rpm toshiba hard drive
dual boot (original Me, and win2k professional)
minime
sf5.0

I am using the win2k boot for taping (trying to go 16/44.1 ONLY) from the minime via usb.

here is what I have done, and if i am missing anything, please help me!!
-8gb partition for winme os (fat32) (primary partition)
-8gb partition for win2k os  (fat32) (logical drive)
-20gb partition for music  (fat32) (logical drive)
-I have sound forge recording to the music partition NOT the same partition
as the OS is on
-screen savers off
- all powerschemes disabled (monitor/hard drives always on)
-sony power panel is ste at " fixed maximum CPU speed (667mhz)
-performance options set for applications (not background services)
- paging file for all drives set at 1064mb
- windows sound schemes disabled
-all WIN2k services on manual or disabled except the folowing:
ati hotkey poller
com+ event system
event log
logical disk manager
plug and play
protected storage
remote procedure call
removable storage
runas service
security accounts manager
system events notification
telephony
windows management instrumentation
"  "   "   "   "   "   "   "   "   "    "  "   "   " driver extensions

I am using the newest apogee minime drivers.

I know i cannot do much more than 16/48 over USB with the minime, but I can't even get 16/44.1 to work!! everything works great, except that I am getting random  glitch(or spike/pop) in the audio.  it is not timed (like every 5 minutes or whatever, it's just pretty random)  last week I did an hour show, and got 4 random pops the entire time, and last night i did an hour show, and got like 50 pops.....

someone please help me, any suggestion, tips whatever are greatly
appreciated!!

Hey phatdats, I replied to your post to laptop-tapers... Try switching your performace options from applications to background services.

I know it sounds ass backwards but its the correct setting for taping. My celeron 400 Toshiba that I use for taping was giving me dropouts every 1-30 seconds until I did that and now its smooth like buttah.

There have been issues using the usb port on the picturebook to record at sample rates higher than 48k no matter what interface is being used.  If you really want to stay with the p-book I would recommend getting a sound card and using the pcmcia slot.
