Title: New Surround sound mic, up to 7.1
Post by: BC on May 02, 2005, 06:56:01 PM
check it:

www.holophone.com

looks pretty cool!!  :D

I think it uses 8 DPA 4060 mics mounted in that spheroidal enclosure.

This has already been used for a lot of field recording @ some big-time televised sports events.

This may be a dumb question, but 7.1 what? Channels?

FWIW, I don't know what 5.1 is either.

Thanks-Kevin

yes channels. 5.1 is left/center/right/surround or rear  left&right. the .1 is the sub

7.1 is l/c/r/rear l&r plus 2 more surround speakers that go inbetween the fronts and rears for side-fill. the .1 is the sub still.
hope that made sense. that said i prefer 2ch stereo even for movies.
