Title: Remastering + MD transfer
Post by: MoFo2 on May 06, 2005, 02:54:53 PM
Hi! I have a few U2 earpiece recordings that I would like to remaster for
personal use as the sound is quite "thinny" and low on bass. Does
anybody have some tips regarding websites and software (or anything
else for that matter)? I've heard about Soundforge and Wavelab, but
never used them.

How to transfer from MD (I have a Sony MZ-R70) to PC without losing quality? I've tried it
some years ago with a cable (I don't remember which type) but felt
that the quality suffered and there were pops and clicks.

Thanks for any help :)

I can also be reached by e-mail, my adress (and trading list) can be
found at mofo2.com

Thanks for the offer, but this is something I would like to do myself both as it private material (no, nothing like that) and I want to learn. :) Anyone got some good websites or other recommendations?

Then get yourself an MD deck with optical outs.  Then you can do a digital transfer.  But watch out--a lot of soundcards resample digital signals.  You want something that locks to the digital signal and does bit for bit transfers.  I transfer to my JB3 then transfer to PC.  You ought to get yourself a JB3 anyways  ;)  But the right soundcard may be cheaper for you.

Maybe someone else can chime in with info on mastering software...

I'm interested in this as well.  I did an analog replay to a DVDR to get the audio off my Sony MZ-N707 - how's that for a pain?  Any rig that can do digitally transfer ATRAC3 data off a minidisc would be veeerrrrrry useful to me ...

As for re-mastering, I've found Sony Sound Forge capable of solving just about every problem I've come across with live recordings.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I bought my MD (june 2000) just before Sony introduced that NETMD-thingy (at least here in Norway)  :(

So I guess I'll have to learn the specifics of my MD and what soundcard I have (yes, newbie..).
