Hello. I recorded a show last night (Audioslave) and MD 1 recorded good throuout the show and then at the end it said TOC Error and the MD now says blank. I mean I know there is music on there but its gone right now :(. Is there anyway I can recover the music on that MD to get it onto CD? Any help would be great.
Thanks For Your Time.
Spike
NO NEED TO SHOUT AT US, we're generally willing to help without the YELLING. That said, I'm of no use on this one, but hopefully an MD'er will chime in.
There's some information on minidisc.org that tells how to "trick" certain types of sony decks into writing a TOC (table of contents) onto your MD. The the TOC will end up being the whole disc, so your whole disc will be one long track.

Also, you may want to check out the forums there:

Hmmm, I believe if the thing doesn't get finalized and saved to the minidisc, you're pretty much fucked.
It's a tapers worst nightmare, pulling your md outta your pocket and it's switched off of or you drop it. This happened last night, when I pulled my recorder out of my pocket it had switched off, the sinking feeling is indescribable and I feel for you. Luckily when I listened back to the tape it had the show minus the last song, so it wasn't all too bad. :)

Rich, check out the link I gave in my previous post. I've rescued MDs that were ejected prematurely using those methods.

Just get someone with a MD deck to do a clone for you. If it was taped in SP (non MDLP) I can do it for you. Are you sure it recorded the whole show and then went crazy on you during the TOC writing process?
What happens if your battery goes? Can recordings still be saved then?
Yep...all the data is on the disc its just the toc that gets out of wack which tells the player that nothing is on the disc. Ive had it happen to me once or twice and it was easily fixable.

Ahh, fuck flaps. I had a show where my battery went dead, awesome gig too. :(
Well whatever you recorded is still there. if you still have the disc and havnt recorded over it and was in SP not MDLP i can recover it for you.

Ditto that, it's worked for me... Once on an erased disc, once when I ejected it before the TOC wrote.
I have an MD that is 'erased', it was recorded in MDLP, is anyone here capable of doing a TOC clone to rescue the contents?
bump?

Which recorder was used? I might be able to do it. If it was erased and not recorded over, but the contents WERE there, I'd say there's a very good chance. I've done it 2 out of 3 times, the time it didn't work was on a disc in which the TOC wasn't finished writing, the other 2 that worked were completed but erased.

I used a MZ-R900 Sony
It reports that theres about 5 seconds of audio on the disc

The contents were erased, after recording was complete and the TOC was written?
Yes, the TOC was completed and the recording was verified intact
The fuckup happened afterwards
