Title: Capturing streams?

May have been discussed. How does one go about capturing a stream?  I am talking specifically getting the live KEXP sessions online that have been archived?  I am not too obsessed with an exact digital copy.

Can't you just run a cable from your line-out of your pc to the line-in on your m1?  If you PC has digital out, even better, do it all digital.

yes - it works very well and captures in whatever the native format is.  I understand that some audio cards also have the ability to loop back as well.

You can simply set the record-in source to be your "WAV output" on the soundcard in Cool Wave or whatever audio program you have.

Be forewarned when doing so it will capture all the little beeps and dings your computer makes so when doing a recording be sure and close any IM packages or whatever else might "chime in" at the wrong time and end up on your recording.

yeah - that's one of the cool things about total recorder - it turns all the system sounds off.  Also, if you get congestion it stops writing so even a choppy broadcast still comes out smooth.

TotalRecorder is a really great product.  I'm actually suprised that it is not more popular.  In addition to grabbing some good audio streams it records video as well.  I think a few years ago a Panic in-studio from KFOG (I think) was distributed by someone who grabbed the video stream with Total Recorder.

System sounds at least in Windows should be turned off always.  Resource hog as well as putting beeps and sounds just when you don't want them.  Do you really need to hear an error beep?

Anyone ever try Download Studio (http://www.conceiva.com/products/downloadstudio/default.asp)?

It costs $40 while Total Recorder Standard is only $11.95, but appears to have a number of handy features for downloading just about anything...  There's a fully functioning 15 day trial.
