Does SD make any sort of rubber cap or is there anything that can be used like a dummy CF card to stuff that slot?
That's a pretty big hole that could get moisture, dirt, or other unthinkables lodged in there over time.
Any suggestions?

duct tape

I asked this question before and the answer from someone at SD was "no". Seems like a logical part for a piece of field gear.

I believe dummy CF cards are available in retail. Where, I dunno, but try a Google search...bet you find something.

I know when I got my digital camera and my R-1, they both came with 32mb or 64mb cards. Just find someone that has one of those spare and give them a few bucks for it.

Fostex sells a CF slot-filler thingy
So do a few camera companies.
Maybe call the support people at BHphoto.com ?

portabrace is where it's att, no reason to open the bag other than a battery change!

get a cheap CF card and use it as a giveaway if you get busted by security...low capacity cards are cheap at this point

How much deeper is the portabrace than the actual unit. I have read the the 6000mah batts fit fine in there but i'm curious if there is even more room. reason? custom battery pack i will be making for mine.

I can measure when I get home, but Fozzy, in my estimation it is probably 1-2 inches deeper than the big batts

custom through the hirose connector port or using the battery mount?
Edit: BTW, a DAP1 protabrace makes a nice fit if you can find a used one. The only issue is that the DAP1 bag has a single sleeve, so depending on which side you want to access, you will need RA connectrrs for the enclosed side. In the bottom of that bag, there is as much room as Nick describes - about an inch deeper than the unit with a big battery attached.
