Title: AKG c4000's? Anyone used 'em?

3 patterns. Just curious how they sound.

Hey!
I used to run these mics, found them to be a bit heavy on the bottom end, thin on the mids and top end, especially for far field recording.  All three patterns seemed to exhibit the same character.  If you want some samples, I'm sure that I have something that I can come up with.  The 480's or 414's will blow these out of the water...

I have used these mics for 3-4 years now and love them.  The problems you mention are only when you are taping in bigger sized venues, in smaller clubs these mics work great.  You might want to use the bass roll-off switch for some of the bassy shows though as yes there can be a heavy bottom end (I guess that would also depend on your listening setup).

Since I got a Presence-modded UA-5 these mics have really begun to shine, the mids and top end both sound a lot more full and rich.  ;D  I'd highly recommend one of these units to run with them if you're looking for an external pre-amp as well.

Yup that would be mine.  Crappy sounding large warehouse type of a venue but the show still turned out good and lots of people on the torrent at the moment so it should be a fairly fast download.

If you're more into the New Deal here's another show you could check out:
