i am considering buying a laptop as a replacement for a desktop pc. i want to be able to connect my MD standalone digi out to the laptop digi in.Do all laptops have a optical in for the sound? If not, what can i do?
-
as far as i know, none have digital in. i'd suggest looking into usb soundcard options like the egosys u24 or the emi 2|6 or a26 as they're called now i think...something along those lines should work well.

I belive the fujisu life book has digi in via optical
-
a UA-5 would work, no?
-
ua5 would resample the digital signal being fed to it.
the M-audio transit is a usb device that's said to be bit-perfect -- accepts and sends an optical signal and runs under $100.
