Title: putting my recording onto my computer
Post by: sweatboard on May 25, 2005, 12:23:04 AM
Using the jb3 the playcenter does not list "recordings" as an option to look into.  How do I transfer my recorded files to my computer?  Thank You.

Have you checked the JB3 FAQ?

Have you checked the JB3 FAQ?

Yes. I didn't see that covered.  Sorry if it's on there but I really couldn't find it.  Thanks,

Brian

[250] How do I connect my NJB3 to my computer for transferring recordings?

The documentation which comes with the NJB3 should address this question in more detail.  But basically, you need these components in place:

[1] NJB3 firmware for the NJB3 to function
[2] PC drivers to enable firewire
[3] PC drivers to provide connectivity between Windows and NJB3
[4] File Manager software to provide a view/edit interface to the NJB3

The NJB3 should come with [1] already on it (though you may wish to upgrade - see below).  Windows should have taken care of [2] already.  So now you need [3] and [4].

[3] There's a separate set of NJB3 drivers which must be installed on the PC in order for Windows to recognize the NJB3 over the firewire port/cable.  These drivers should have come on a CD with your NJB3.  Nomadness also hosts the driver upgrades (http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=7).

[4] In addition to the drivers above which provide connectivity between Windows and the NJB3, you'll need another set of software to provide an interface that allows you as a user to view and edit the contents of the NJB3.  There are three options:  Creative's File Manager software (ugh) (http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=12) or Redchair Software's Notmad Explorer (trial, $20 for permanentlicense) (http://www.redchairsoftware.com/notmad/trial.php), or Creative's Nomad Explorer (http://www.creative.com, Support | Downloads).  FWIW, I previously used Notmad Explorer and think it's a far better piece of s/w than creative's File Manager, but now I use Nomad Explorer.

And a bit more detail...using Nomad Explorer (not Notmad Explorer), I turn my JB3 off, plug in the firewire cable, turn on the JB3, and then expand the Nomad Explorer JB3 node in Windows Explorer to access the Recordings  (Nomad Explorer | NOMAD Jukebox 3 | Music Library | Recordings).

Everytime I try and run the Nomad Explorer it gives me the message "Creative media source not found, please install your creative media source before running this setup program"  I don't understand, because it worked fine with the creative playcenter, I just couldn't find my recordings.  Now I've tried to install this driver (http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=7).  But the link no longer works.  I got my jb3 used so mabey I didn't get everytning I needed.

I finally got the Nomad Explorer on my computer but "recordings" is not a catagory I can choose from.  I can't find recordings on my computer anywhere no matter what I do, any suggestions?

My JB3 lists the Artist as LINE IN. Have you looked for that? Maybe I'm not understaning you. Hopefully that helps.
