Hello all again. I was thinking about my V3 the other day, well actually alot lately, and I come to think that the Sound Devices MixPre with attenuators running at 15db is the safest bet in bars as compared to the V3. Of course the V3 is nice in bigger venues, but the bars have come out better with the MP since I've been listening to my past tapes with the MP. I am speaking of this being done with some Schoeps Mk4 caps into a CMC6 body. Just wanna hear some opinions if any out there. I was also wondering if it was okay to store my masters on shn? And another thing, I have a Bonnaroo ticket I am trying to get rid of if any takers.
Peace,
Jesse Mc

do what your ears tell you ;)
shn/flacx is a viable storage medium, preferably onto dvd's

I recorded a show at a real tight walled bistro this past Friday night, and I used the V3 just trying to make a definate on my calculations. The thing that was done was the settings on the V3 were cut way down. I cut the gain to 20db and set the trim above 12 o'clock to make sound look clean on my levels. I still come to find that the places with tight walls don't make the best recordings, but I see that with the levels set lower on the V3 puts a good enough recording out.

lower levels (that low) shouldn't/won't make the tape better.. I have never ran the v3 at 20. even on stage. I have run at 25 many times (most of the time) with great results. I would bet it's the combo of schoeps and a shitty sounding bar. not the v3 or the mp. ymmv.
