Please be patient with me. I am fairly new to computers (2yrs), and real new to digital recording (6months). Some how after installing a Nero update, the flac files icon on my flac files has tuned in a to NeroMIX mediafiles icon. They appear to still be flac, because I can still use flac frontend to decode to make audio CDs. What I'm worried about is encoding WAV to flac for archiving to DVD data discs. So how do I get the flac icons back? I already uninstaled NeroMIX, it didn't help. It may not make any difference what the icon is as long as it is flac, but I'm old and set in my ways. Besides I think the flac icon looks cool. Thanks for any help in advance, R.

just uninstall and then re-install flac frontend ;)
that SHOULD take care of the file association thing

Go to My Computer.
Go to Tools > Folder Options
Select the "File Types" tag....look for flac...click on it...select Change...select "Select the program from a list"

I really don't think that what you're seeing is anything to be concerned about. The Icon merely indicates which program is associated with the file (i.e. which program will open up if the file's double clicked). IMHO, neither nero nor the flacfrontend is really a useful association for flac files.
If you don't already have a good program for playing back flac files, I suggest you download and install foobar2000 (www.foobar2000.org). If you do this, your flac files will have yet another icon (that assigned by foobar 2000) and will automatically play in foobar2000 if double clicked.
Also, fyi, the nero association you're seeing is a plugin that allows nero to burn audio cds directly from flac files, without the need to expand the flac files to wav.

when double clicked, my flac frontend file associations open w/ a double click in foobar2000, when you right click ANY type of file, just go to 'Open With' and select the program you wnat to run when double clicked :), dont forget to check the box that says 'Always Use the selected program to open this type of file'
