Why does this thing have to be in such a bitch of a spot? I want to try and do a SBD/Mic matrix but what a pain in ass to get to.
Edit: Guess I didn't metion its a UA-5. Doh!

Anybody think Oade would be interested in doing a mod to bring it around to the front?

Email convro I had with Jim/Doug:
Hard to put a number on it, it is more a matter of folks needing it. Most all of them are used for only two inputs, so it probably will never come up in any significant numbers. I like to know I can do 100 or more MODS as I spend a lot of time working them out and it is never as easy as it seems. When we use it at the board, we do not place it in anything, it just sits there, so it is easier to adjust, but still not easy ! Peace..Doug

About how many requests do you need for it to be feasible?

hi kevin, you are the first one that i have heard this from,
but you can send an email to doug@oade.com, as he is the
one who does the mod, to see if it is feasible to do this....jim

Well, if running a matrix...I used to (when I had a ua-5)...ask the soundboard dude to send levels and have him adjust them up or down according to where I wanted them. I would then unplug the line input and supply phantom, set my mics were I wanted them, plug back in the rca's, and i was good to go. What's the problem?

I don't think the soundman should have to be asked to handle adjusting my levels.

You ever done one with 2 sets of mics? I was thinking maybe running omnis in the back and then my regulat mics in the front.
I'd like to be able to set the back and not have to touch it again but sure how feasable that is.

i think you're gonna need some kind of delay box if you're gonna run one set up front and the others further back.
-
Looks like Mel and I are gonna be trying this for DMB in Vancouver. His omni's in the back of my UA-5 and my mics in the front. Any suggestions on how to set the knob in the back?

at what mixture do you want the two sources? 50/50? my ua5 is on the way and i ponder the same thought.
-
Is this knob an attenuator or does it actually apply gain? Trying to figure out the best way to run it w/ a V2 going thru RCAs.
thanks
-
pretty sure it's just a variable resistor
-
Isn't there a time delay issue to be considered ?
lost that thread or two, no small matter.

i think the mod wouldn't be too difficult.
the gain pot is in position 1. looks like there may be enough room in position 2a for the fit. the faceplate would need to be drilled at position 2b and the pot surface mounted. a jumper wire assembly from the new position to the original position soldered.
