I voted R1; then you could sell your DAT deck and put the money towards more toys. Plus, you'd only be spending a reasonable amount on a unit that may be updated/renovated in 2-3 years as opposed to twice as much. Also, you'd have some money left over which you could put towards your hyper caps along with the DAT deck money.

Wonderful plan....

I'd have $700 or so left, sell the M1 for $300, and only be $600 away from the hypers...

We may have a winner!

What about the m-audio?

Any word yet on exactly when that'll be out? Anything confirmed?

Someone posted the other day that their retailer had just heard it was 6-8 weeks away.

Based on my few shows with the R1, I was impressed with it but the two issues I had were the 2 hr 12 min file limit when taping 24/44 and the level meter only showing one level instead of two. I'm hoping the m-audio doesn't have either of these issues.

I'll also be curious to see how the a/d in the m-audio compares to the r1's.

You could probably go with the R1 and a 4gb flash card (~$700 together), then if the m-audio compares favorably to it, sell it at close to what you paid for it.

I think I'll go with the MK41s...go ahead and grab them while I've got the cash.

The cost of HD/CF recorders will eventually go down, the prices on Schoeps caps will most definitely not.

That SX-M2/LS2 > M1 is a mighty fine combo, IMO.  I'd go with the MK41s and wait for the market to shake out on the 24-bit recorders.
