I found a discount AT853 for $86. The problem is that they only have one. Is it worth it to buy that one and wait till I can get a deal on another? Or is it really important to buy them in matched pairs?

At that price, I say go for it. They retail for about $160/$170 depending on where you go.

there are no matched pair for those mics. if it's new, then i wouldn't worry about matching.

if its the white one that has been on ebay for awhile i would be hesitant... i looked into one and the seller's policy for refunds, etc was meh at best.

full compass on the other hand has had many folks pleased with thier service.
if you dont mind the white... (and the limitations of ONLY phantom power, although it will sound better) i say go for it... you will be half way there.
there was a time i was contemplating getting a white mic and a black mic for my set, but i ended up finding a killer deal on a set of blacks for 200. overstock from an install. ;D yeah ebay!
