Hi there!
I have been wondering around one month in acquiring a pair of CMC-2. My decision has been delaying and delaying because I'm watching for every possibility, I just want to make a good deal.
I was pretty sure of buying a CMC-2 with AT831, but I have found out the CMC-4 with AT835 and with optional mic elements (sub cardioid and hyper cardioid). I guess It would be a better deal to acquire a CMC-4 (AT835), and, if it's necessary in the future, acquire the different mic elements (sub cardioid or hyper cardioid, depending on the necessities).
I'm upgrading my mics from a SP-BMC-2 (low cost sound professionals binaurals, but they work great!), so I guess switching to AT831/5 it's a good solution. but, what do you think of optional mic elements?

The more caps, the better.
From AT 853 I prefer the hyper indoors, omnis outdoor and from time to time cards outdoor. I like the omnis better though. Most of the people that generally use those there tucked in a hat or in shirt for stealth. I used them for years on a stand and have made some great tapes. I never used anu subs.
Its always nice to different caps.

The CMC-4's are actually 853's, not 835's. Simple number mixup, but just tryin' to set you straight. By the way, what type of shows are you going to tape? If you're going to tape really loud shows you'll definitely want the phantom option with the 853's, that way the mics will be able to handle it. But again, this all depends on what type of music you're looking to record.

Well. I use to record loud music (heavy metal bands). By talking of phantom power, are you talking about a simple battery box of 9 volts or a 48 V phantom power such as Denecke PS-2? I know the more phantom power, the more db will be able my mics to hold (I think the 853.s are able to hold up to 111 db with 48 V phantom power).
Anyway, here in Spain it's quite difficult to enter a full rig into a show, so I need my full rig to be the much stealthier as possible. Which is preferable, to have phantom power with XLR connectors or miniplug connectors? (Another time, I guess it will depend on necessities).
My rig would be
SP-CMC-4 (AT853's) with cardioid cap (in first instance) + SP-SPSB-1 (battery box with bass roll off, i guess w/ cardioids is not really necessary...) + NJB3 (line in, PCM wav 48Khz)

Well, I have serious doubts about how many things should I buy to make the 853's work, since I use a Nomad Jukebox 3 analog line in recording and a 9V battery box actually...

Yes, somewhat. I guess I too am looking at the 853's, but if I go for them I'm going for the AT853Rx's for phantom power (48v). After that, the two Denecke products (PS-2, AD-20) look like the norm with the phantom 853's, but I'm definitely going to look at all other option too. Assuming I go the 853 way.

Finally, I'll go for the CMC-4 with no phantom power option. Don't have enough bucks to buy a phatom power supply, an A/D, etc...
Maybe in the future! >:D In can resend the mics to soundprofessionals to adapt the phantom power option if I change my mind.
