Title: What is the difference between the few omni configs I am familiar with?
Post by: Bdifr78 on June 27, 2005, 07:38:53 PM
Hey guys,

I have been taping for a little over a month now and I have only used my card caps so far with my SPC4s.  I want to do some experimenting with the omnis and I am wondering what the difference is between "Spaced Omnis", "Split Omnis", and "Healy Critically Placed Omnis" is.  Is there a difference, or do they all refer to the same thing?

What is the minimum distance, from each other, you should run omnis?

Do you have to be closer to the stage to run omnis than cards?

I have also read that omnis are not the best choice for indoor shows, does anyone disagree with this?

Should I not run omnis inside, or do most just prefer cards for indoor venues?

Thanks for the help,

Joe

Thanks.

Hmmm....I don't have two stands or a wide enought bar for split omni, but I might give healy a try for the opener.  It seems so...odd to point the mics at the side walls.

moke, i may make mine w/ some real nice baffle material from markertek, its about 30 bucks a piece, and should do the job well w/ a piece of plywood inbetween each baffle :)

save the $$ and buy some of that "egg crate" type foam, or a textured ensulite pad(sp?) (backpacker sleeping pad) way cheaper!
get a tube of black silicone and glue it up.

ok, i prolly will, i just want it to last awhile ;)

So basically, I should just make a jdisc.  That seems to be my conclusion.
