Title: about frequency response
Post by: hushpuppie on June 29, 2005, 06:55:01 AM
Hello

I'd like to buy some Giant Squids mics, I think I'm gonna for for cardioids, but I see this: 100 - 12,000 Hz frequency response
Whereas for the omni it's: 20 - 20,000 Hz frequency response
Is it very surprising ?
How much is it important for concert recordings ?

Thanx

IMO, very important - it means you're not capturing a good amount of bass.  Whether the mics capture nothing below 100Hz or capture with a heavy rolloff, I think it's a problem.  Here's a frequency chart (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=1010.0) for reference.

I can not see the linked page... (will try later)

Actually I was more worried about the 16000Hz  --> ??

I have owned Squids in the past.  Actually still have them..  Both Card and Omni..

Unless you are doing and acoustic show they tend to overload at high SPL quite easy w/o a roll off.

For the $'s they do just fine and they got me hooked.
