Title: Mic upgrade time
Post by: madman on July 06, 2005, 09:36:08 PM
I've been taping shows for the last 2 years or so using the Core Sound Binaurals w/their battery box into my Sharp 722 MD.  I'm eventually planing to move to either solid state or a JB3 as my recording device, but definitely need a mic upgrade.  It seems the DPA 4061s are right up my alley, I usually record in small clubs with VERY loud sound. I've been reading this forum for the last 2 hours or so but had a couple questions.

1) Any other similarly priced mics you guys would recommend?
2) If i pair these with an MMA6000, I can do without a bat box, correct?
3) Assuming I plan to change recording devices in the near future, should I look to getting a pre-amp with digital out?

It seems most of you guys are using a pre-amp, I'm thinking this will be the way to go but at the same time I don't want to lug around a lot of large equipment, so size is important to me.  Not necessarily for stealth, as most bands don't care that I tape, but more for not looking like I'm carrying a recording studio on me  :)

I'm curious to see what you guys would recommend as a good, compact setup.  Thanks!

I think the 4061>mma6000 would DEFINITELY be right up your alley. and no you dont need a battery box.

A follow-up to my original post...I'm going to be taping mostly loud rock shows in small clubs (the kind of places you walk out and can't hear anything for 2 days), so I can probably forego the pre-amp.  Where would I find a convertor to convert the microdot to 1/8" stereo so that I could use a sound pro batt box?  Thanks.

I currently use the DPA4061 > CSHEB-box into my DAT recorder.  but i might be unloading it in case you are interested.  I *only* tape loud rock shows ....
