whats the minimum? i'm trying to keep the caps under an umbrella. seems i can get about a 2 foot spread. that ok? jdisc is out as this rig needs to travel by air.
-
Jdisc is an easy item to ship flat.. any chance of just UPS the thing a few days early to where you are staying?

I guess i could, just don't feel like dealing with the disc this trip. i use it at local outdoor shows and that's about it. i want to try omnis at red rocks.
-
All good - just a thought..
-
I'd jdisc it
from the section at red rocks you'd need more than 2 feet (imo) to prevent a "mono" sounding tape
why not bring a clamp and run on 2 different stands?

if you sold your miniDPAs, do you still have the jdisc you made for them..?

How about an easily transportable, disposable hrtf-like baffle? ;)

This is Gude Head
click on the pic for more of Gude Head, in his different party wear fashions.
Its surface seems a bit too hard and reflective, don't you think?

It was designed by Sennheiser engineers to be "human like" in its feature and density.
It was my first baffle.
We are a lot more refined today than we were back in the day.
Why do you think a j-disk would be superior?
-
moke, do you always have your mics pointed upward like that when running HRTF? I tend to run them pretty much horizontal for comfort's sake. Wonder if there'd be much difference in the sound.
-
ok. Cool.
I use pretty much the same HRTF headband as you and find I can't really get it pointed upward too much without discomfort. Been happy with the results nonetheless, so I guess I won't worry too much.
-
...The sound was always way too bright, as it was collected reflections, rather than a more direct mic'ing...
You might want to give it a try with a more absorbing surface.
-
What if you would use a head-like sphere, but without the certain coloring of the pinna?
I think it wouldn't be true binaural anymore, but more versatile for real world playback.
Does mounting microphones close to a surface color the sound too much, could this be the reason why you prefer j-disc (with a healthy distance between the mikes and the disc)?
