Title: help with reciever choice
Post by: BJ on July 15, 2005, 03:36:58 PM
ok...I was seriously looking at these speakers, but then noticed nicks post at the bottom of the first page...

so it got me thinking...what reciever (im looking low budget here....<300$ i guess) would you pair with this....

i just purchased the toshiba 4960 from daryans post yest for playback...

I would really like to pick up the 2000es, it seems to get alot of fluff, and gives me capabilities for multiroom, surround(if i keep my old set) upsample(i think?) etc....

so fire away...if there is two pieces needed, and i can still get in budget..that is fine too..just looking for possibilites...

I followed the suggestions for room setup from my last post...and things are comming nicely.....we have purchased a projector instead of a widescreen tv....so no tv...and these mmg's would be smaller footprint that large speakers...

thanx in advance!

You can't go wrong with the Sony.  I've got a Yamaha that I like alot.

ya..thats what most said..but then nick said something (in the aformentioned thread) about the ohms and shit b/w those speakers and the sony....I don't quite understand all that schtuff...

I think those speakers need something special...that the sonys may/maynot have/do

are you running MMGs ?
I think the Sony will drive them...but it wont be an optimal amp for a 4ohm load.  I would try it w/the MMGs I guess because they both excell in the same areas (the sony and the maggies) and you might end up in audio nirvana.

but rule of thumb...these sony amps will not efficiently or effectivly drive a 4ohm load.  best in the 6-8ohm area...which these maggies are not.
but like I said..being that the MMG is the smallest..its worth a shot.  you could always get different speakers.
:)
