Title: newbie help on new computer system
Post by: jibooer on July 17, 2005, 07:21:34 PM
MY CONTEMPORARIES, I NEED YOUR HELP!

I am purchasing a new system soon, but I would appreciate some opinions on the components I am planning on pruchasing because I am still unclear on some issues. In other words, I have 'researched' the posts and have decided on some necessary things, but I need to be sure before I dish out the $$$$$$$$$$$$.

The system in question is:

Motherboard - Asrock 5754 upgrade 760gx
Processor - AMD64 2800+   1.8G/800/512K/S754 NC
Intergrated Video Card
Memory  - 256M 333Mhz DDR
HD - 80G Maxtor 7200
DVD-RW - LG GSA4163B DL
SOUNDCARD - AUDIOPHILE 2496

this will be connected to a Tascam 302 or D7 for transfers via coax

Question 1: is that enough RAM?
Question 2: is that enough processor speed?
Question 3: is the AMD a better pick than the Intel chip?

I am very excited about the prospects of this upgrade as I have 100's of DATs that are JONESIN to be transferred and shared...

Thanks alot everybody in advance,

get more ram... at least a half a gig...

the processor speed is ok, but if you can afford it, get a faster chip

i have an amd chip and love it... my last tower was amd as well... i personally think amd makes a better chip for the money... cheaper and faster.... they are tits on graphic apps.

thanks alot for the reply...

and here's a follow up question:

a faster chip is a good idea, but does that affect the power and the subsequent noise?

i appreciate the help
