Title: I can't get sound on 96k shows on my pc....
Post by: Gordon on July 18, 2005, 02:17:49 AM
ok. first of all I have my audiophile 24/96 hooked up to my home speakers for playback from the pc.  everything plays fine except 24/96 shows.  24/48 play fine etc.  I set the hardware on the audiophile to 96k.  still not working.  doesn't matter what the hardware on the card is set to it doesn't work.  winamp appears to be playing them but I can't hear anything.  they won't play in wavlab either so I don't think it's a issue with winamp.  again as far as I can tell the settings on the card are fine and I can get 24/48 shows to play.  what am I missing??

Which driver are you using in your playback programs with this card?

reading that thread doesn't exactly make me want to use foobar ;)  as I said 24/48 plays fine but 24/96 doesn't.

IMHO, it's not a foobar issue, it's getting the card to work in aiso (asio?) mode that's the problem.  Personally, I've found my setup to sound a lot better using foobar rather than winamp.  Also, note the references to the audiophile 24/96 resampling all digital files on playback unless used in aiso mode . . . .

That said, I think there are aiso drivers out there for winamp too

still not sure why 24/48 plays just fine and 24/96 doesn't.  also there is no asio in the hardware setting/contol panel of the audiophile.  however in wavlab under preferences > audio card there is a option for playback/record with m audio asio.  doesn't seem to work either.

also, foobar2000 is the only flac/wav playback that DEF plays back flacs seamlessly, winamp has a 2-second gap!

that sucks ass IMO and when i got a digi-soundcard to just go PC>Digicard>jvc receiver there would be 2-second gaps, so i ditched winamp instantly

foobar is solid while im playing around on multiple programs too, doesnt skip a beat like winamp either ;D

fluff off-----------------------------------

anyway, thats weird, i'll have to try a 24/96 show if i even have any i can think of

good luck gordon!

I have the M-Audio DiO 2496 and I'm pretty sure I have been able to listen to 24/96 FLAC shows before.  I believe the DiO2496 uses the same driver as the Audiophile 2496.  I'll check tonight when I get home and report back.

Sounds like a hardware limitation to me. I can play 24/48 fine on my Altec ADA-890's via SPDIF, however 24/96 will not play via SPDIF and I have the analog outs also feeding my speakers (for when I must play them). My limitation is my computer speaker set. If I want 24/96 for reals then I run it into my home reciever via SPDIF. Has it worked before?

The Logitech 5500 speaker set is capable of 2496 via SPDIF. I also was browsing last night and Behringer is about to release some kickass digital monitors capable of 24/192. They are about $130 pair. Those are my next purchase I think. They look farkin sweet.

i messed around with this last night, but could not find the driver that was in the link above.  So i wasn't able to get foobar to work.  Also has anyone tried using the asio driver in soundforge 7?
