Title: Opinions on vintage solid state receivers Marantz vs Pioneer
Post by: Kevin Straker on July 28, 2005, 01:20:44 PM
I'm looking at a marantz 2270 and a pioneer sx 1010. My dad used to have an old pioneer amp like this and I always liked the sound. The marantz is well thought of for this type of gear. Anybody have an opinion on these two?

Thanks-Kevin

I have an older Marantz SR7200 and much prefer the sound of it to any other Receiver in its price range.  The analog bypass was much better than the similar Denon 3802-05.

I still use my Marantz SR880 exclusively.

I think it has a really fat sound. I use it for audio and home theatre

Love the older--pre 80's--solid state receivers.  My Marantz finally gave up the ghost so I bought a Sansui G7500 :o  Paired with my Klipsch Heresy I speakers the sound is "thumping in your chest" excellent ;D  LOUD receiver :yikes:

I'd still be using my early 80s Marantz had PG&E not blown it up, parts not available. Much preferred to Pioneer gear of the same era.

I know this is old, but I just acquired a Marantz 2226B, and have it pushing my Klipsch Heresy IIs, and it sounds very nice, IMO.  I also have a old Pioneer amp (don't know the model, can look it up) - and it sounds nice, but I bet the Marantz would smoke it.   The Marantz was the best $70 I've spent in a long time.
