Just got off the phone with D&M, after they emailed me that a fix was available for the file format issue recording at 24 bit.
The good news is that there is a firmware upgrade that lets you select in the menu 24 bit old-style, compatible with Wavelab 4.0 etc., 24 bit -E for the new Microsoft 24 bit format, or 16 bit.
The bad news is that you have to ship it to them for the upgrade, as for the 670 upgrades, no downloadable software like for the SD 722 or Edirol R1. They promise a one day turnaround. Mine goes out tomorrow.

What is the shipping address?
And can you give me the # so I can let them know it is on the way etc.

You need to get an SMA (service authorization) number before you send it in to them, it should be part of the address lines on the package. The telephone number is (866) 405-2154, call 8:30-5:00, CST, M-F, ask for service department.

Send mine off on Thursday. Thanks for the heads up.

I got mine back today, there's now a choice in the menu to record 16 bits 24 bits or 24e, which is the new Microsoft extended wave format I guess. Seems to be working fine.
