Title: male 1/16" <>female 1/8" plug ... does it exist? (aka how to record cell phones)
Post by: ljsurfer2002 on August 08, 2005, 09:26:48 PM
I have saved in my voice mail some messages I want to keep ... trying to figure out the best way to get them to .mp3. In the past, what worked was I had a speaker phone land-line. I dialed into my cell phone from there, entered the message center and played back the message, while recording it with my rig (at831 > NJ3) .. and then just using the NJ3 wav files to convert to mp3.

using at831 > up to the earpiece of the cell phone created feedback / static on the recording.

now, I do not have a landline or speaker phone anymore and wondering how to get them off? ... I can use the land line / speaker / at831 solution at work but was just wondering if there was a male 1/16" plug <> female 1/8" plug out there? if so, I can just plug into the headphone jack on my cell phone, and then plug into the female 1/8 my Male 1/8" <> male 1/8" cord that can go into my 'line in' on my computer.. boom. playback the message on the phone, hit REC in soundforge, and i'm golden!

does such a converted exist? and if so .. where and how much!?

also, other ideas / experiences are always appreciated . thanks!

Do you mean 3/32"?  That's the common size that's smaller than 1/8".  If so, Radio Shack sells a few different 3/32" <> 1/8" adapters that would let you use a miniplug cable that you likely already own.

This one's a Y-cable as well, but they probably have a few different options: http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F011%5F003%5F001%5F005&product%5Fid=274%2D945

excellent! I should have known .. just go to radioshack for all your plugs / cords / needs!

I assume they also have a female 1/8" ------ male 1/8" cord to use when i start stand taping? .. (to get the cord from the hight down to the ground where my deck is...
